Markus Wanzeck

Editor and reporter at natur

Markus Wanzeck has been working for the environmental magazine natur since 2014, first as managing editor, since 2018 as editor and reporter. He is based in Hamburg. Since 2011 he has been reporter and editor at Zeitenspiegel Reportagen. Research trips e.g. to Afghanistan, Ethiopia, Australia, China, India, Malawi, Nepal, Rwanda or Vietnam. Publications in brand eins, mare, NZZ am Sonntag, Reportagen, stern and Die Zeit, among others. He studied philosophy and sociology in Munich and Sydney, Australia, and attended the Zeitenspiegel Reportageschule. He is co-founder and chairman of the German-Chinese Media Network (Deutsch- Chinesisches Mediennetzwerk e.V.). The association was established in 2011 by alumni of the journalists exchange programme Media Ambassadors China-Germany, the sister  programme of Media Ambassadors India-Germany.

Awards and scholarships: e.g. Media Ambassadors China-Germany, Gabriel Grüner Scholarship, IJP Asia, Media Ambassadors India-Germany, nominated for German Reporters Award (Deutscher Reporterpreis) and Nannen Prize/Egon Erwin Kisch Prize. In 2017 he was fellow of the Media Ambassadors India-Germany programme. During his stay in India, he was guest journalist at Sunita Narai's Delhi-based environment magazine Down to Earth.
